To mark the occasion, we will open two exhibitions simultaneously: The Salt Storage Phenomenon: Back to the Futureand Architect Miia Masso: In Five Acts.

Throughout the evening, we will celebrate the Salt Storage’s past, present, and future, enjoy cake, and listen to great music until 9:00 PM. Drinks will be served by Peninuki Bar.

The Salt Storage Phenomenon: Back to the Future

In 1996, the Museum of Estonian Architecture and the contemporary art department of the Estonian Art Museum began operating in the Rotermann Salt Storage. It became a place where the meaning of a contemporary exhibition space was shaped in Estonia, evolving into an important meeting point for art and architecture.

The exhibition brings together the many phenomena that have made the Salt Storage what it is today: groundbreaking artists of the 1990s and 2000s, experimental media and ideas explored within its walls, and architects whose work has been consistently highlighted through the museum’s exhibitions. Historical ideas and practices are presented in dialogue with contemporary creative work.

The exhibition will be on view in the museum’s main hall from June 4 to October 4.

Architect Miia Masso: In Five Acts

A personal archive reflects the unpredictability of life. The workshop archive of architect Miia Masso contains material that reveals the professional journey of an architect whose career spans more than fifty years.

The exhibition moves both chronologically and thematically through time, presenting her work in five thematic acts. Each act is guided by an object that has accompanied Masso throughout her life.

Her body of work, created both during the Soviet era and after Estonia regained independence, includes apartment buildings, summer houses, private residences, public buildings, urban plans, and business centres. The exhibition features a rich selection of original materials and copies preserved by the architect as essential parts of her portfolio. Together, they create a deeply personal portrait that reflects her aesthetic sensibility, values, and enduring charisma.

The exhibition will be open from June 12 to August 23.
